What we do / Mental Health High Quality, Culturally Sensitive Counseling & Other Supports with You in Mind
We know that life can be stressful, especially when people are struggling with depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. It can be especially hard and frightening when it is your children who need the support.
Navigating the systems and finding a counselor that feels like a good fit and speaks your language can be overwhelming. We work with these families to provide no-cost counseling for adults and children and can provide psychiatry services and other support when necessary.
We can help you and your kids work thorough difficult emotions and experiences, create new habits, and find a route that gets you where you want to be. We partner with some schools to work with kids on campus, with specialized support for youth who have immigrated recently.
For adults, we have created Alameda County’s first peer respite home, a safe space for people who are experiencing an intense emotional crisis and need to take a breath from their everyday lives.

Family Education & Resource Center (FERC) is a program of Mental Health Association of Alameda County (MHAAC) funded through the Mental Health Services Act and operated under contract with Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services (ACBH).
Being a caregiver can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. Family Education & Resource center supports the families and caregivers of children, youth, adults, and seniors working through mental health conditions. Our dedicated team, extensive program offerings, peer support groups, and resource library are here to help you every step of the way. Contact us today to connect with an advocate.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers a free, 8-session educational program for families, significant others, and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is a designated evidenced-based program. This means that research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition. NAMI Family-to-Family is taught by NAMI-trained family members who have lived experiences, and includes presentations, discussions, and interactive exercises.

At the Child Mind Institute’s Family Resource Center, we are committed to providing up-to-date, authoritative and actionable information about children’s mental health and well-being.
Our goal is to empower families, educators, and others involved in the care and support of children who are struggling to understand the challenges these kids may be facing and make informed decisions about how to help them. To that end we cover:
Resources to help families and educators decode complex or difficult behaviors to understand where kids are coming from and how to support them
Detailed information about mental health and learning disorders to help families be informed when they are seeking diagnosis
Current information about the best evidence-based treatments
Practical strategies that families and educators can use to help kids who are struggling with mental health or learning challenges
Advice for families about how to support healthy emotional development and raise resilient, independent kids.
